A little history about the Ventura New Music Concert Series

On May 22, 1988, the Momentum Gallery (now defunct) in Ventura, CA had its official opening. Organized and operated by the Ventura Arts Council (VAC) and VAC director, Maureen Davidson, the opening featured two compositions by Jeff Kaiser for trumpet and percussion. At that time Maureen and Jeff discussed the possibility of a new music series at the gallery. It began in 1990 as a fringe event to a larger festival and, amazingly, has been going on ever since. Outliving both the Momentum Gallery and the VAC, the series has grown to include the pfMENTUM Newsletter (now called NewCreativeMusic.com) and pfMENTUM recordings. The music series founder, Jeff Kaiser, welcomed the addition of Keith McMullen as co-director in 1997. Keith's enthusiasm and assistance has been a boon to the music series and pfMENTUM ever since.The Ventura New Music Concert Series has featured a wide spectrum of artists with one focus: high-quality performances by composers, instrumentalists and vocalists who are passionate about their work in this underrepresented art form. Currently used venues include Ventura City Hall, Ventura High School, and Art City II in Ventura, CA.
